Individuals involved in SEED participate in their own personal and professional awareness as well as work to create a safer and affirming environment in their classroom and/or workspace.  In addition, the SEED groups have been involved in other initiatives on campus such as:

  • Co-sponsored the first All College Staff Development Day, featuring Tim Wise as the keynote speaker, April 2003.
  • Purchased, framed and hung diversity posters on campus.
  • Offer GLBT ally training to the campus each semester.
  • Offer to serve on Search Committees.
  • Share resources with colleagues.
  • Request diversity related books and media for the library.
  • Support students and colleagues around issues of inclusion and diversity.
  • Represent Century at workshops, conferences and colloquiums on diversity.
  • Speak to other Higher Educations institutions about offering SEED.
  • Offer support to the multicultural club.
  • Presented The Laramie Project play to campus on duty day (August 2006) and on Student Success Day (February 2007).  Please click on the icon at the bottom of this page for more information.
  • Ordered and distributed 6,000 Speak Up books to the College for use as a Common Book, Fall 2006.  Please refer to the Speak Up section of the menu for more information.
  • Developed a page on the College website.
  • Century College welcomed and hosted 32 Chinese professors in the summer of 2008 for four weeks.  The visiting professors studied active learning strategies and immersed themselves in American culture. The professors all teach English at Soochow University, a highly selective institution in Suzhou, China, that has over 100,000 students and six campuses. The professors speak English fluently, but had never been to an English-speaking country. In addition to the workshops and classroom observations, the visiting professors also toured the Twin Cities and stayed with about a dozen different host families on weekends.
  • The Intercultural Passport program is a three year faculty and staff development project created to offer more opportunities for the Century community to better understand and serve our students by increasing our global and societal awareness.  More information can be found here.
